The 1928 Sears' Crescent Model Home was part of the catalog order program, and one of only a handful still in existence in Jacksonville, Florida. The original ads claimed that "The average man can assemble a home in 30 days". The home was built by the original owner and remained in possession of the original family for over 60 years. Jerry Spinks, a leader in Jacksonville's preservation movement, saved the home from being demolished as a result of commercial construction in the area. The home was relocated to its current location on a quiet, private street and given a new foundation, plumbing, wiring, HVAC and a basement/root cellar as part of the overall restoration project. The current owners have updated the kitchen, scraped and painted the home, re-glazed the windows (original glass; rope pulls; functional) and replaced the roof this year. The vast majority of flooring, fixtures, and molding remain original to the home, including the corner-round tub and farmhouse sink. This immaculately preserved home is a piece of Jacksonville history, with a location convenient to main access points (I-10; Roosevelt, I-95), lively nightlife (King Street District, Shoppes of Avondale, 5pts), and within walking/biking distance to neighborhood schools.
